#Tigger’s Hour? Or “On The Consequences of #Convos” (The Good Ones, at least!) Re: #NewSpotters

5 Apr

So I’ve tasked myself, again, with nibbling at the meaning of what’s going on around here… this time, serendipitously, across time zones – and at somewhat odd times, considering that the Skype app was running at the Hour of the Tiger, and well, the simple fact that the call DID come through, unhindered!…

[LOOOONG SIGH... INHALES...]

“… Age of Miracle of Wonders, it is a Long Distance* Call…”as Simon would put it!

[SATISFIED GRIN]

Anyway, here’s what the newfound focus may end  up being about? another ‘seminal’ and oft-referred to piece?

[5:25:29 AM]: But is this explosion of prose good, on a technical level? Yes. Lunsford’s team found that the students were remarkably adept at what rhetoricians call kairos—assessing their audience and adapting their tone and technique to best get their point across. The modern world of online writing, particularly in chat and on discussion threads, is conversational and public, which makes it closer to the Greek tradition of argument than the asynchronous letter and essay writing of 50 years ago.

[5:25:45 AM]: The brevity of texting and status updating teaches young people to deploy haiku-like concision. At the same time, the proliferation of new forms of online pop-cultural exegesis—from sprawling TV-show recaps to 15,000-word videogame walkthroughs—has given them a chance to write enormously long and complex pieces of prose, often while working collaboratively with others.

Yeah, that’s me ‘quoting’ the Clive Wilson piece from 2009 on #NewLiteracy

Anyway, this is just a sketch/outline/bullet’ing of what I’m supposed to post in a few days; unfortunately, GTG, long day starts… I mean, started a couple of hours ago!…

P.S: * Long Distance Calls now being redefined as VoIP Centered ones, all through apps on devices, nothing to do with Analog Transliterations of our  Actual Voices, BUT with simply digitized encodings!… and all at the Speed of Light, lest we forget the real ‘clock’ The Packet Cloud runs at, routers & firewalls notwithstanding!

Since I am bouncing around Europe this week, (come say hi at #tsc12 if you can), now is a good time to republish this list from a few months ago. It is still as relevant today as it was then:

1. “Social” is something you are, not something you doIf your company culture doesn’t focus on building relationships with your customers, then chances are that you won’t use social media to do it either.

Moonbeams and Bunny Hops: End of The Year of The Rabbit… #Randomness

8 Jan

Just a quickee reminder of these being the last few days of The Year of The Rabbit; was it anything like the stars predicted?

Solo para celebrar y recordar que el Anho del Conejo esta por terminar; se cumplió lo predicho? O nos sorprendió el destino, una vez mas?

The app (Chinese Horoscopes by Internet Designs vía AppStore) sez:

Rabbits fall under a most fortunate sign! Their sign is the emblem of long life and they possess the powers of the moon. Rabbits are very sensitive to beauty. They are gracious and soft spoken. Rabbits are the diplomats and the peace-makers. They enjoy a tranquil life and love a quiet evening at home. Rabbits are reserved and very artistic. They are thorough and good scholars. When Rabbits are moody, which is often, they will appear totally indifferent to the world.

Rabbits are lucky in money matters and great at finding a bargain. They may look easy-going, but they are actually quite cunning! Being a strong-willed person, they go quietly but determinedly towards their goals. They don’t like making waves and find other means to get their way.

Rabbits are well-mannered and seldom use harsh words or foul language. Instead they cater to your every whim until they get their way. Before you know it, you have been won over! Although Rabbits appear slow at times, they are actually practicing caution. They read all the fine print before signing their names. Their uncanny abilities to correctly assess people and situations leave them quite conceited. Rabbits are considerate, understanding, warm, friendly, and easy to be with. They know how to relax.

When everyone is rushing around, Rabbits remind you that there is still tomorrow. Their motto is ‘live and let live’. Rabbits would never embarrass you in public and they know how to save face. If Rabbits can spare your feelings, they will. For this they are well liked.

Rabbits make few enemies and rarely get into serious trouble. No one is more understanding. Rabbits give you all the sympathy you need. Just don’t expect them to go out and do battle for you. If the going gets too rough, Rabbits may make a quick exit. They can’t stand suffering and misery. Rabbits are experts at passing the buck and may hedge over difficult issues. When they feel too threatened they are unpredictable. If you push them too far they will simply get rid of you! Rabbits were not born to be fighters. They have their own ways that are very effective. Having good sense they know how to take care of themselves. They protect their own environment from strife at all costs.

Rabbits are good entertainers and hosts. They have good words to say about everyone. Although they often know more than they will say, they are discreet in their choice of friends. No matter what happens to Rabbits, they land on their feet and easily leap obstacles in their path. Rabbits believe in themselves and are at peace within. They will find success and contentment.”

Any truth to these?

Day 76 of 3rdWinter hath brought “Balmy, Springlike, Unseasonably Warm…” ones; rejoice or worry?

7 Jan

I mean, as to whether or not we have been lucky so far in reintroducing ourselves and acclimating to these newer latitudes… A blessing in disguise?

After all, most locals also indicate that sometimes Ye Olden Man shall with a vengeance cometh… Whaddayathink?

(And yeah, less that four weeks to go for #GroundhogDay, too!)

Frank/cisco

P.D:

#3rdWinter Day 76? How do you spell “Spring-like” (Sp?)

6 Jan

#3rdWinter Day 76? How do you spell “Spring-like” (Sp?) … And yeah, all those news about Snow Deficits? Would this actually enrage Old Man and have him release his hounds, Blizzard, Icestorm and all the others, later on, as the locals are warning us about?….

… Glitch, PayForward… Or just plain Global Warming?

(at that, how convenient! Heater remains unusable so far, in the car!)
